A world where every person with sarcoma is diagnosed early, treated effectively, and supported by a community that never stops fighting for a cure.
What Guides Us
Our core values shape every program, event, and conversation we have.
Education First
We believe that knowledge saves lives. Every resource we create, every event we host, and every conversation we have is rooted in accurate, accessible information about sarcoma.
Community-Centered
Patients and families are at the heart of everything we do. We listen, we learn, and we build programs that reflect the real needs of the New England sarcoma community.
Relentless Advocacy
We speak up for earlier diagnosis, better access to specialists, and increased research funding — because sarcoma patients deserve the same attention as any other cancer community.
Transparency & Trust
As a registered nonprofit, we are committed to responsible stewardship of every donation and to being open about how our resources are used to advance our mission.
How SANE Began
Sarcoma Awareness of New England was founded by William (Bill) Witham and his wife Julie, of Salem, New Hampshire. In July 2025, Bill was diagnosed with Myxofibrosarcoma. After consulting with seven different healthcare providers, he received care at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, where he underwent a radical resection of his lower left leg on July 18, 2025, followed by a second surgery on September 11, 2025. From November through December 19, 2025, he completed 30 rounds of radiation — and on February 5, 2026, Bill was officially declared NED: No Evidence of Disease.
That journey — the confusion, the delays, the search for the right specialist — made one thing clear: people facing a sarcoma diagnosis deserve better information, stronger connections to expert care, and a community that truly understands what they are going through. Bill and Julie founded Sarcoma Awareness of New England Inc., a New Hampshire-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit, to be that community for patients and families across the East Coast.
